HET PALEIS - De grote reis

A small realistic bus, sized to fit children, is build on rails, inside a real city bus. A group of 30 small voyagers depart for a journey around the world in 37 minutes.

Step inside a real bus for a journey around the world. Experience the trembling of the bus, the excitement and adventure of being on the road. Travel along strange countries, to the other side of the ocean where the sun blinds you, or where the wind can lift you up!

For some children theatres are not accessible. Thats why our bus makes a stop in front of schools, in any ugly suburb or boring small village. In this way we try to let as many children as possible enjoy theatre.

Because The Great Journey is on childrens size (scale 0,7), the room for adult passengers is really limited.

Idea and animations: Judith Nab
Drawings: Dirck Nab and Judith Nab
Video montage: Raf Peeters
Audio montage: Ben Bonner
Décor: Luc Willekens
Music: several samples of world music, Charles Mingus,
John Fahey, Lorenz Schaetti a.o.

" This not a pleasure-trip: Nab wants to stimulate the children to discover the world and not just consume it from their safe seats. Not just the ‘raw’ animations, which hesitate between realism and absurdity, but also several informative scenes, give ‘The Great Journey’ some sting: when we suddenly arrive at a heavily guarded border we are happy that we have a return ticket. The guiding soundtrack is going from jazz to Russian folk to corny Indian songs, and is also not meant for easy listening. Nevertheless or maybe even because of this ‘The Great Journey’ stirs up the lust to discover the great, unknown world."

De Grote Reis interview ATV (2010): INTERVIEWS AND REVIEWS
‘It is remarkable how Nab creates a unity in several atmospheres: from dreamy Chagall-like portraits, to the hard reality such as closed zones (no passaran) with high security’ (…) ‘With the power of suggestion the entire world moves ans passes’ (…) ‘Curiosity in discovering the world. With Nab it is an art best taken with you in your luggage’ De Morgen (Belgium) 14-01-2010

Judith Nab wants to share what she sees with her audience. “It is like taking a picture of a sunset, you never succeed.” But every time Nab tries we are happy to be part of it’ De Standaard (Belgium), 12-01-2010

‘It is nice that children get to see that there is more in the world than their direct environment’ Gazet van Antwerpen (Belgium) 05-01-2010
